This week we are taking a look at one of my favorite poses, legs up the wall. In Sanskrit, this pose is called viparita karani, meaning inverted lake (based on the belief that blood and hormones circulate better through the body when it is inverted).
This is a relaxing and restorative pose, but the final pose can be quite difficult for beginners and those with stiff backs. Using props can make this posture easier and more relaxing. One such use is to place a pillow or bolster parallel to the wall and use it to elevate the hips. In the video below, we look at the traditional pose along with some adaptations:
