Writer: JacquelineJacqueline

Most of us are familiar with the feeling of being overwhelmed. As we transition into longer days, try out this simple exercise to regain a sense of grounding. This technique comes from the behavioral health patterns blog of University of Rochester Medical Center, which is copied directly below:

Before starting this exercise, pay attention to your breathing. Slow, deep, long breaths can help you maintain a sense of calm or help you return to a calmer state. Once you find your breath, go through the following steps to help ground yourself:

  1. 5: Acknowledge FIVE things you see around you. ...

  2. 4: Acknowledge FOUR things you can touch around you. ...

  3. 3: Acknowledge THREE things you hear. ...

  4. 2: Acknowledge TWO things you can smell. ...

  5. 1: Acknowledge ONE thing you can taste.
