Finding Steadiness and Energy in Late February

Late February can feel heavy, can’t it? I notice it in my body first — my shoulders feel stiff, my back tight, and some mornings it’s all I can do to drag myself out from under the covers. Motivation is low, and I want to stay inside where it’s warm and quiet. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Some days it’s just hard to move, and that’s okay.

Over time, I’ve learned that small, steady actions help more than anything dramatic. Clearing a corner of the house that’s been cluttered, rolling out my yoga mat for a few gentle stretches, or practicing a few minutes of breathwork can make a surprising difference. Sometimes I step outside, even if it’s chilly, and just notice the air on my face or the way the light hits the trees. Nothing has to be perfect. None of it takes long. But these small moments — repeated, consistently — gradually shift my energy.

Late winter is Kapha season in Ayurveda, which naturally brings heaviness, sluggishness, and a sense of inertia. If you’ve felt this too, you’re in good company. I’ll be hosting a Kapha-Balancing Ayurveda Workshop on February 28, where we’ll explore simple, practical ways to feel steadier, lighter, and more energized. We’ll talk about small routines you can actually do at home — nothing fancy, just gentle practices to help your body and mind feel clearer and more awake.

This month, I encourage you to notice what helps you feel lighter. Maybe it’s tidying a small space, doing gentle yoga, practicing breathwork, or just sitting quietly with tea for a few minutes. Even tiny actions add up. Over time, they help carry us through the heaviness of late winter, giving a sense of calm, steadiness, and a little lift in energy. The days are still short, but little steps like these make it easier to move through them, steadily, with awareness and care.
